How to write a resume to attract the attention of a tech reviewer — tips from a Senior Software Engineer for beginners and beyond
After the resume has passed the recruiter’s check, it goes to the tech reviewer. Usually, the number of such CVs can reach dozens for one position, and only a few candidates are invited for an interview. Senior Software Engineer Oleksandr Kazmirchuk, who conducts technical interviews, gave advice on how to design a resume so that it is noticed by the tech reviewer.

Usually, the number of such CVs can reach dozens for one position, and only a few candidates are invited for an interview. Senior Software Engineer Oleksandr Kazmirchuk, who conducts technical interviews, gave advice on how to design a resume so that it is noticed by the tech reviewer.
«Usually, one of my responsibilities or just an extra job is conducting technical interviews, more often for senior level, less often junior/middle.» «These tips apply to the stage when your CV has passed the recruiter’s check and has reached the reviewer’s desk. Usually, with an open position, 10-20 of them arrive per day, of which several people are invited for an interview,» wrote Oleksandr Kazmirchuk on LinkedIn.
Tip #1
«No one is interested in your code in pet projects on Github. Especially when it’s a junior/middle position and the CV flow is very intense,» notes the Senior Software Engineer.
He advises to focus on the visual: you can show the architecture in a conventional Excalidraw. Visuals are perceived much better than code.
You can deploy on a free PaaS (Vercel, Heroku, Firebase, etc.). «If it’s backend, add API documentation, for example Swagger. «Leave the link at the top of the README file,» the IT specialist adds.
Also briefly describe the solutions and technologies you used. «If the visual is interesting, the reviewer will be interested to see what you used,» explains Oleksandr.
Tip #2
Take a couple of certifications that sound good, like AWS Cloud Practitioner.
«It has no relation to real experience and you just need to learn the theory, but it sounds good and will attract attention,» notes the senior Software Engineer.
Tip #3
If you are a beginner, you can add libraries, frameworks, and approaches you used to your CV.
For seniors, it is better to focus on the Achievements section and not overdo it by adding libraries.
«List the projects you worked on, your responsibilities, and the technologies used. The main thing here is not to abuse it, no one will read a long text,» the IT expert noted.
