Russia's only aviation electronics plant has stopped production — and it's because of the prices for defense government orders
The only Russian plant for the production of power electronics for aviation and military equipment, Optron-Stavropol, is on the verge of bankruptcy. Production has been stopped, employees have been sent home. The plant is in this state due to underpricing on state defense orders.
The only Russian plant for the production of power electronics for aviation and military equipment, Optron-Stavropol, is on the verge of bankruptcy. Production has been stopped, employees have been sent home. The plant is in this state due to underpricing on state defense orders.
Optron-Stavropol produces dual-purpose silicon diodes used in military products. The company is also the sole supplier of diodes for aviation generators of Sukhoi Superjet and MS-21 passenger aircraft, Russian media reported.
As of June 2025, the company's accounts payable amounted to 230 million rubles. The plant's accounts were seized. There are also debts for tax and utility payments, as well as wages.
Production has been suspended since March 2025, employees are being laid off, and the supply of state defense orders (SDOs) has been disrupted.
The company's management says that the problems were caused by the implementation of the DOZ, within the framework of which the price of products was greatly underestimated, which is why the plant began to operate at a loss.
