"Close the door so no one comes in. Meet for lunch and in the evening." Aitov residents talked about the features of joint remote work with their partners

On the social network Threads, Ukrainian IT specialists shared their experience of organizing a workspace with their significant other, the advantages and challenges of this format of coexistence.

Quarantine, the development of remote work, and a full-scale invasion have led to many Ukrainian IT professionals starting to work from home with their significant other. PR professional Liana Bur asked Threads how couples organize their workspace and what to do to keep the romance in their relationship.

As Engineering Manager Anna Falinska notes, she and her partner have been working at desks pushed together for several years, and they are “normal.” Anna’s experience confirms that working together at home can be quite comfortable.

SMM specialist Alina also works with her partner in the same room, emphasizing the importance of not disturbing each other while working. She also sees positive aspects in this: “it’s cool, because during the day you can take a break, hug, have lunch together,” Alina said.

Asya, a resident of Aiti, who switched to remote work during quarantine, notes that although socialization is sometimes lacking, having separate rooms (not a kitchen or a bedroom) is a must. At the same time, she highly appreciates the opportunity to save 2-3 hours a day on commuting to the office.

SMM specialist Maria, who has been working remotely with a partner for over three years, shared her more detailed experience. Her formula for successful collaboration includes several key points:

  1. A two-room apartment, separate workplaces. Having your own space is a guarantee that no one will interfere with the work process.
  2. Everyone should have their own hobbies, time when you are alone. It is important to maintain personal space and interests outside of work.
  3. Everyone should have their own social circle, it's common to go out with friends for coffee or go to the gym sometimes. Socializing outside of the couple helps avoid feelings of isolation.

Middle frontend developer Kateryna Kucherenko also confirms the importance of separate workstations in different rooms with the ability to close the doors. According to her, this approach allows you not to distract each other during the working day, but to meet for lunch and spend time together in the evening.

One commenter added an important observation: While there may be romance at the beginning of working remotely, over time, a sense of personal space takes over. He emphasized the need to sometimes go away without each other to “reset,” and cited the benefits of involving your partner in household chores during work breaks.

In general, most contributors came to the conclusion that they need more personal space and at least a two-room apartment.
