Developer salaries fell by 6% in half a year: the drop affected most programming languages, except Java and TypeScript
Developer salaries continue to decline across all specializations, with the biggest drop seen for developers with 4–5 years of experience (minus $200–300 compared to summer 2024).

The data is based on a salary survey conducted at DOU in November-December 2024. 5,172 developers participated in it (4,961 in Ukraine, another 211 abroad, but planning to return).
10% of the 5,172 developers surveyed earn from $6,250, 1% earn over $10K, DOU reports .
The wage growth in food companies that was observed six months ago has stopped. Median salaries for middle-level specialists have decreased by $150 and returned to the level of December 2023 ($2,500).
Salaries in outstaffing companies continue to decline. However, their salaries remain among the highest.
There have been no significant changes in the median salaries of developers in service companies over the past six months. Salaries here are still lower than in product or outsourcing companies.
In startups, the median salary of the highest-paid developers at the Lead/Staff/Principal level and above has increased slightly ($115, to $6,515). There is a trend toward an increase in the share of Junior-level specialists in these companies (from 23% to 28%) and a decrease in the share of Senior+-level specialists (from 50% to 43%).
The difference in salaries between developers with different levels of English remains. Specialists who know this language better can receive 30-60% higher salaries, but this does not apply to Juns - there is no difference here.
Median salaries
Only Team Lead salaries did not change ($5000). Intern/Trainee even had an increase of +$63 ($400). In others, median salaries decreased:
System Architect: -$325 ($6,500);
Technical Lead: −$100 ($5600);
Senior: −$200 ($4500);
Middle: −$50 ($2450);
Junior: −$35 ($900).

By specialization
In the Back-end, the biggest drop in salaries was for middle managers (-$200, to $2,500) and specialists at the Lead/Staff/Principal level and above (-$250, to $5,550).
In Mobile, salaries for juniors (-$200, to $800), seniors (-$200, to $4,700), and specialists at the Lead/Staff/Principal level and above (-$250, to $5,000) fell.
Among Full stack professionals, the largest drop was in the median salary of seniors (-$200, to $4,300).
In Front-end, the decline in salaries has stopped, except for specialists at the Lead/Staff/Principal level and above (-$150, up to $5200).
By programming languages
Scala remains the leader in terms of median developer salaries. The median salary for those who use this as their primary programming language is $6,000, the same as six months ago.
The median salary for Go developers has dropped significantly (-$350 per half year), but the salaries of those who write in it remain among the highest. Overall, after a summer increase, Go developer salaries have returned to last year's level.
Salaries of specialists working with Kotlin and Swift are also higher than the market average, but there is a downward trend.
There has been a positive trend in Java senior and junior salaries over the past six months. Senior salaries have increased by $100, although they remain lower than a year ago. Junior salaries have returned to $1,000. Mid-level salaries continue to fall (-$50 over six months).
Salaries of juniors and seniors who chose TypeScript are above the market average, and mid-level salaries are at the average level. Junior and mid-level salaries recovered after falling this summer and returned to the level of December 2023, while senior salaries continue to decline (-$50 per half year).
Salaries of juniors and middles who prefer Python are at the average level, while seniors' salaries are above the market average. After the summer drop, salaries of senior specialists recovered (+$100). Middles' salaries, on the contrary, fell by $400 after the summer increase. Juniors' salaries remained unchanged after the summer drop.
The salaries of specialists who write in C++ are close to the average. Senior salaries have returned to their previous level after a summer increase. Middle salaries have dropped significantly (-$233 for half a year). Junior salaries have remained unchanged.
Below-average salaries for C# / .NET, JavaScript and PHP specialists. Salaries for C# / .NET seniors and juniors continue to decline (-$200 and -$45 per half year). The decline in salaries for mid-level professionals has stopped. JavaScript seniors' salaries declinestopped. Mid-level salaries increased by $100 after the summer drop, but did not reach the level of last year. Jun salaries also began to decline: -$100 per half year. Salaries of experienced PHP developers continue to decline: -$125 per half year for mid-levels and -$100 for seniors. Jun salaries have not changed over the past year.
