Ukrainian developer Oleksandr Tarabaka created the mobile application Tavul to simplify the control of taking medications and vitamins. The main feature of the service was a full combination of two modes: a daily schedule and situational taking of medications "as needed."

Two modes for complete control

Most similar apps focus solely on a clear schedule, leaving out the use of situational medications (such as antipyretics or painkillers). Tavul solves this problem by offering two equivalent classes of functions.

  • Scheduled: Suitable for treatment courses, vitamins and daily medications. Reminders are flexibly configurable: daily at certain times, every X hours or on specific days of the week.

  • As Needed (PRN): For medications that are taken on an as-needed basis. The app counts down the time since your last dose and suggests when you can take your next dose.

"For "as needed" medications, such as antipyretics or painkillers, it is important to see how much time has passed since the previous dose and when the specified interval between doses will pass," notes the author of the project, Oleksandr Tarabaka. "Therefore, in Tavul, the application counts the time since the last recorded dose and checks the interval and limits you set for the last 24 hours."

Full confidentiality and data export

The developer paid special attention to the security of users' personal data. Tavul works completely autonomously and does not require creating accounts or connecting to external servers.

"I deliberately made the application without a backend: health data is stored on the device, without accounts, advertising, and analytics. Reminders are local," emphasizes Oleksandr.

Among other useful features of the service:

  • export of admission history to CSV, allowing you to quickly share a clean report with your doctor;

  • JSON backup with full data recovery capability;

  • caring for loved ones: the ability to keep records not only for yourself, but also for a child or ward;

  • delicate reminders that don't "annoy or make you feel guilty" about missing a dose.

The Tavul app is available for download on the App Store .
