In two years, the number of female hires on Djinni has increased by 5%: their salaries are $200-500 lower than men's

On Djinni, 32% of job seekers are women, the same number of hired female IT professionals. In technical specialties, the share of women decreases with increasing category and experience, while the number of female junis has increased.

The proportion of women decreases with increasing "technicality" of the category and experience.

The share of women in searches on Djinni is 32%, according to a Djinni study.

As of February 2025, the share of junior-level IT specialists (up to 2 years of experience) is 42%, middle-level — 34%, senior-level (5+ years of experience) — 25%.

The most female candidates in the categories:

  • HR & Recruitment — 89% of junior and middle level;
  • Creative & Gaming — 70% junior level;
  • Marketing & Sales — 57% are also junior level.

The fewest female candidates in the categories:

  • DevOps & Security — 16% juniors, 8% middle level and 3% senior level;
  • Development — 20% juniors, 13% middle level and 7% senior level;
  • Data Related — 47% juniors, 30% middle level and 18% senior level.

The share of women among all hires is slowly but steadily increasing.

In two years, the share of women hired in IT has increased from 27% to 32%. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of hired candidates at Djinni was :

  • 3% in DevOps & Security;
  • 12% in Development;
  • 30% in Data Related;
  • 36% in QA;
  • 48% in Management;
  • 50% in Marketing & Sales;
  • 55% in Creative & Gaming;
  • 92% in HR & Recruitment.

The decline is observed in the QA, Management, and Marketing & Sales categories.

If we talk about hiring women in terms of experience, then during October-December, 29% of juniors, 21% of mid-levels, and 8% of seniors were hired in Tech categories. In Non-Tech, the percentage is traditionally higher: juniors — 69%, mid-levels — 55%, and seniors — 46%.

For senior level and above, in almost all categories, a statistically significant difference in salary wishes can be identified: men ask for more.

The median salary expectations of developers with 5 to 9 years of experience are $4,000, and women are $3,700. If they have 10 or more years of experience, the gap narrows, with the average salary for men being $5,000 and for women being $4,900.

The large difference in the Data Related category is likely explained by the different specializations in this category. Men are more likely to choose engineering and data science, while women are more likely to choose analytics.

Among hired candidates, in most categories, men's salaries are $200-500 higher than women's.

Among the categories where there was a significant difference in salary in 2024 were middle and senior QA: men expected an average of $1,700 at the middle level and $3,000 at the senior level, women - $1,500 and $2,400, respectively.

The difference for senior developers at $4,000 versus $3,500 also became noticeable.
