Users of Zaporizhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions once again have the opportunity to use the video communication platform.
First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov announced the restoration of access to the Zoom video communication program in front-line regions.
"Today, Zoom restored access for the education sector in front-line regions. The company is also working to restore access for all users in these areas," the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs wrote on his social networks.
The problem with blocking users in Zaporizhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions was resolved after Ukraine requested the service provider. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is currently working to fully restore access in the aforementioned regions.
This is not the first time the Ministry of Digital Transformation has addressed the issue of blocking Ukrainian users on other platforms. In addition to Zoom, in early July, Ukrainian freelancers reported that their accounts were being blocked on Upwork in large numbers. The wave of blockings included at least 100 cases, including accounts with an income of $300,000.
Subsequently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov wrote a letter to Upwork CEO Hayden Brown due to complaints from Ukrainian IT professionals about blocking on the platform. The head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs called on Upwork to change its account blocking policy. In early August, he announced the start of unblocking Ukrainian accounts .
Despite the efforts of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Upwork has again started blocking previously unbanned Ukrainian accounts. The Ministry of Digital Affairs responded to new complaints from freelancers about the blocking of Upwork, and stated that they are currently investigating the reasons.
