UPD. Ukrainian IT company SPD Technology has undergone layoffs, affecting 14% of employees on one of its client projects

SPD Technology has cut 14% of roles, including testers and product owners, at one of its client projects, PitchBook. The layoffs affected about 50 employees, according to sources.

This was reported by the DOU publication. It is noted that some of the dismissed employees had worked at the company for six to nine years. Among the reasons cited are «optimization, restructuring, AI».

«They promise one salary without bonuses + ¼ for each year of work only from 2 years. They created a rally in the morning 15 minutes before the start. And at the rally, everyone lost access to the project,» the source said.

SPD Technology is an international IT company with Ukrainian roots, specializing in outsourcing and product development. It was founded in 2006 by Oleksandr Sadovskyi and Bohdan Khalyapin. As of 2025, the team employed over 650 specialists; the company has development centers in Kyiv and Cherkasy, an office in London, and remote teams in over 30 countries.

SPD Technology recently announced the launch of the AIvangelist program, which helps employees understand how «artificial intelligence works, think with it, and apply new skills to real-world projects.»

«If you already work with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data, join us to develop technologies that have real impact,» the message says.

What they say about layoffs at SPD Technology

«Yes, indeed, we have reduced 14% of roles on one of our client projects, PitchBook. PitchBook noted that this decision is due to a restructuring of the structure, not a budget cut, in order to deepen the focus on individual strategic areas. To ensure better positions for growth in 2026 and further accelerate product innovation and strengthen the technical base, investments are being redirected to the development of AI/ML technologies, deeper automation, and engineering and architectural roles,» the company told dev.ua.

SPD Technology noted that as a result, some roles are being transformed, while others are disappearing, and the layoffs are not related to employee efficiency. The press service confirmed that the reduction affected QA and PO roles, and added that there was also a conversion of QA to SDET roles, which «remain and involve significantly higher skills in code development and maintenance.»

«We managed to retain a significant part of the QA team who met the requirements or had the appropriate dynamics. The reduction of PO roles affected areas where a simplified team structure was sufficient to implement the tasks.
«We have implemented a number of measures to support colleagues in full compliance with all terms of cooperation and provided compensation,» SPD Technology assured.

The company representative added that each laid-off employee received final payments with severance pay and bonuses, and compensation for unused vacation. They were also provided with individual consultations on preparing resumes and provided recommendations and assistance in finding a new job.

«Our goal was to support everyone affected by this situation. Such changes are no longer anticipated, and the company plans to invest in productivity tools and training to adapt to new market realities,» SPD Technology says.

Recall that in the spring, SPD Technology opened a representative office in Romania. The new remote hub is aimed at finding local developers and integrating the company into the country’s tech community.
