A Reddit user revealed that he created an AI job search bot that, he says, helped him apply to 1,000 job openings while he slept. What happened next?
«I used AI to apply for 1,000 jobs and got 50 interviews. And all this while I was sleeping! In just one month, this method helped me get about 50 interviews. Adapted resumes and cover letters created based on the description of each job played a significant role», — said a Reddit user.
According to the Mirror, commentators are divided on this method of job hunting. Some believe it’s simply a brilliant move, while others say it’s «unethical» and shows he’s the type of person looking for easy ways to advance his career.
The AI enthusiast believes his strategy was «incredibly effective» and increased his chances of getting noticed by recruiters. productive, but also fulfilling and meaningful for everyone.»
According to him, he created an AI bot that:
«As I watch this technological revolution unfold, I cannot help but reflect on the profound implications for the world of work. Despite its effectiveness, the automation of job search questions the very nature of professional relationships. We face a paradox: in our quest to optimize the selection process, we risk losing the human factor that is often crucial in the work environment,» he noted.
Opinions on the new idea of automating job applications with artificial intelligence are divided: some call it smart, while others call it unfair.
One user commented: «Unethical? I don’t know. Companies are using AI to read applications/resumes, so it’s essentially bot-to-bot conversation. If it helps me get a job in the 21st century, then as they said in the 20th century, all’s fair in love and war.»
«I’m going to try this. Will we be able to see a log of what jobs the bot has applied to? I wouldn’t be surprised if some employers call back. Also, do you or anyone else recommend creating an inbox specifically for this? I can imagine my inbox being flooded with ‘Thank you for applying,’» said another commenter.
However, another Reddit user warned that companies are starting to add a «no AI» rule to resumes and job postings. «We’re already doing this, and I even suspect that if AI has been used, your resume goes straight to the trash,» he noted.
Career experts have previously noted that the average length of a resume has nearly doubled in the past few years. They attribute this to the increased use of AI tools. While technology can help with resume creation and review, AI can also carry certain risks.
Many HR professionals advise treating AI as a tool to help with resume writing, and caution against leaving all the work to it. They also advise being prepared for candidates to interact with AI during the first rounds of interviews.
