Amsterdam-based recruitment company Randstad conducted a survey of more than 26,000 employees working in 35 markets, The Register reports .
40% of IT professionals surveyed said they quit because of rigid policies, and 56% threatened to look for an alternative if their requests for flexible schedules were ignored.
Nearly three-quarters of those surveyed say that remote work increases their «sense of community» with colleagues, and 68% say they would trust their employer more if they had the freedom to choose their schedule, work intensity, and location.
Greig Paglieri, Director of Randstad Digital, noted that «the IT sector has shown that personalized work benefits and flexible opportunities are important not only for attracting the best talent, but also for retaining them in competitive markets. Policies should meet the needs of the organization, the team and individual employees, providing a flexible and personalized approach.»
A separate survey of recruiters, which surveyed 1,060 people across 21 markets, found that more than a third of those surveyed said companies are now adapting to diverse work environments and have implemented policies in the past year, and 81% believe this is helping to create equality in the workplace.
However, not all tech leaders are listening to their employees. Amazon, Meta, Google, Elon Musk’s collection of companies, IBM, Dell, and many others are demanding that employees return to the office.
At the same time, employees are trying to fight for flexible work schedules. For example , Spanish Ubisoft employees are suing the company over a requirement to attend the office 3 days a week. In December, 500 Amazon employees sent a letter to the CEO urging him to cancel the company’s policy of full return to office work.
But Nothing CEO Carl Pei believes that remote work is incompatible with high ambitions and high speed, so the company has required employees to go to the office 5 days a week.
Recall that Vodafone employees in the UK are having their bonuses cut if they are in the office less than 8 days a month. dev.ua found out whether anything will change for specialists in Ukraine.
