In an interview with Business Insider, he stated that developers who learn to use generative AI effectively will soon begin to reap financial benefits.
According to Zelnik, AI will help «eliminate routine work and allow our teams to work on more interesting, higher-level tasks.»
«I don’t think I know anyone who would object to that, because higher-level work usually pays better,» the Take-Two CEO added.
Strauss Zelnick, 68, took over Take-Two in 2007 and became CEO in 2011. In addition to the Grand Theft Auto series, the company also has popular franchises such as Red Dead Redemption, NBA 2K, Civilization and Words With Friends. Zelnick previously held executive positions at BMG Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures.
He declined to elaborate on how Take-Two is using generative AI. Zelnick noted that his optimistic forecast extends beyond interactive entertainment, as he also expects AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT to create more jobs globally.
«The history of technology shows that technology contributes to employment growth. You literally won’t find a single example where new technology has led to a reduction in overall employment. Every time a new innovation comes along, there’s a group of people who scream and shout that the good old days are gone, and what happens then? The world becomes better, safer, richer,» he said.
