While this figure is a small percentage of Amazon's total workforce (1.55 million), it covers almost 10% of the company's approximately 350,000 corporate employees, Reuters writes .
The cuts, which will begin this week, could affect various divisions, including the human resources division known as People Experience and Technology (PXT), as well as the operations, devices and services, and Amazon Web Services divisions, the sources said.
Managers of teams facing layoffs received training on Monday on how to communicate with employees after the emails that will begin to be sent on Tuesday.
This also comes on the heels of a CNBC report discussing a memo from Amazon CEO Andy Jussie that noted that as Amazon continues to deploy more AI agents, fewer corporate jobs will be needed.
Previously, dev.ua reported that Amazon will replace more than 600,000 jobs in the US with robots that would be needed by 2033.
Amazon has made smaller job cuts across its divisions in recent years, with at least a hundred employees at Amazon Web Services reportedly being laid off in July.
