Anthropic has announced a $100 million investment in a new initiative to train Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs). The company aims to train 10,000 FDEs by the end of 2027, training them to best implement the Claude family of tools into enterprise processes.

As it prepares for a large-scale initial public offering (IPO), Anthropic is seeking to accelerate the adoption of AI in the business environment and increase the use of its models, Business Insider writes .

How is the training organized?

This is a conditional fellowship program that engineers from other firms have already started applying for. They will attend four-day face-to-face intensives, followed by 12-week “residencies” working with Anthropic’s Claude tools at their own companies.

Engineers are nominated for training by client companies themselves, after which candidates undergo a selection interview at Anthropic. The first cohorts have already started in New York and San Francisco - they include specialists from giants such as Accenture, Bain, Novo Nordisk and others.

“The skills shortage is a problem for the entire market. We are trying to fill that gap,” explained Steve Corfield, head of global business development and partnerships at Anthropic.

5 Key Qualities of an Ideal FDE Engineer

The term FDE (Frontier Deployed Engineer) describes a specialist with deep technical expertise in the field of AI and a mandate to create new formats and modes of work in the company.

According to Shambhavi Shambhavi, Head of Go-to-Market Strategy and Operations at Anthropic Partnerships, and Steve Corfield, the ideal FDE engineer possesses five key qualities:

  1. ability to work with complex autonomous solutions;

  2. ability to find solutions to complex technical and business challenges;

  3. Ability to explain complex technical matters and help teams navigate process transformations;

  4. rapid and high-quality coding skills;

  5. a desire to constantly explore new possibilities in rapidly evolving technologies.

Creating a “gold standard” of training

While tech companies are actively buying AI solutions, most lack the talent to fully implement them. With training agreements, Anthropic aims to set the “gold standard” in AI education for business and help companies gain a real competitive advantage.
