"When they give you a quiz, it's like a "field of wonders", asking not the questions that are important for the project, but the questions that were Googled." What pisses off IT professionals about recruiters' work: 10 triggers from the first word of mouth

Senior Recruiter Natalia Shelepko asked the community what drives IT professionals crazy during interviews with recruiters and tech interviews. Here are the 10 most popular triggers.

«Honestly: what pisses you off in interviews with recruiters? And now about technical interviews — what moments make you want to get up and leave? Write honestly, even if it sounds harsh. Let’s put together a list of anti-examples to make the interview process better!» she urged .

dev.ua has collected 10 of the most striking examples from IT professionals.

  1. «When they ramble on with memorized phrases with such intonation that it’s impossible to understand some of them,» notes Front-End Developer Yevgeny Zyuskin.
  2. «I recently had an interview with a recruitment agency, so during the entire process I asked three questions to which there were no answers, and the interviewer continued to type a lot of text on the keyboard. Her goal was to ask six questions and type something and leave. They also offer to supposedly take on all the accounting issues, and register with them on the staff, but work for a completely different company. It’s bad that such agencies have no rating, and can do whatever they want,» — told a case from his own experience Taras Klymenko, Unity Game Developer.
  3. «The only thing that is infuriating is the condescending attitude of the recruiter or hiring manager, and I believe that this is unacceptable and spoils the reputation of the company as a whole,» says Financial Reporting Manager Lydia Ts.
  4. Project manager Vitaly Nazarenko compiled a whole selection of triggers: «1. The Russian language. 2. The terminology is correct only in them (I understand that it will be necessary to adapt, but at the time of the interview the candidate cannot do this). 3. The lack of clarity of the initial requirements for the vacancy at the beginning, when they ask you to tell about yourself. As a result, you tell a lot of things, in fact some of them are irrelevant, you did not have time to reveal the relevant part. The latter is more for time optimization.»
  5. Lyudmila Pivtoratska, HRD, said that she is annoyed by arrogance, outright lies about real conditions, the feeling of being interrogated, attempts to reduce the salary amount by devaluing the candidate’s experience. and my «favorite» Katsap language.
  6. «The worst thing that can happen at a technical interview is when they give you a quiz like a «field of wonders», asking you questions that are not important for the project, but questions that were googled for the query «10 tricky interview questions». And for some reason, interviewers really don’t like the answer, «I don’t know, I didn’t need it for work, but in 30 seconds of Googling I’ll give you the answer to this,» says Senior Java/Scala Developer Viktor Koshevoy.
  7. Frontend Developer Yevgenia Selivanova finds test tasks before any interview annoying. «Often, completed tasks are ignored, or template feedback is provided, which is supposed to ‘improve your knowledge and skills,’» he said.
  8. Project manager Yulia Loginova says that they are mad | 5-6 people at the same time already at the first meeting. «And you don’t understand who they are, what they are, and why. I endured without problems. But from experience, such interviews are held for not quite «valuable» positions, as if to increase «value» and significance. Because more often, for really responsible vacancies that require relevant experience, the number of interview participants increases with each subsequent stage. Which is understandable, but even in this case it is not always about 6 people,» the specialist notes.
  9. Front-end Web developer Danylo Pesotsky admits that a technical interview with someone who has nothing to do with programming is infuriating. «Usually, these are some strange questions, disconnected from real tasks, and monotonous execution of code wars tasks,» he says.
  10. Recruiter Viktoriya Mirkevych admits that she is infuriated by lies. «The recruiter knows what are the critical moments for me in employment, but he openly lies that the company has such conditions. For example, is there registration from the first day? In fact, there was registration after three months. And so on, along the entire list of my expectations,» she gives an example.
