AI-slop, burnout and unemployment: what annoys Ukrainian IT professionals the most in 2026 - honest and unexpected confessions

Ukrainian IT professionals are massively complaining about burnout, chaos around artificial intelligence, and problems with the labor market. The corresponding thread gathered dozens of comments on Threads after a question from IT stand-up comedian Vlad Halytskyi, «IT professionals, what’s driving you crazy about your work right now?» The discussion quickly turned into an emotional cross-section of the industry — and it turned out to be quite harsh.

One of the main topics was artificial intelligence. User Yevhenii Lysiak (lysiak.yevhenii) writes about «devaluation through AI» — that even if tools generate solutions, they still need to be tested, just as any patterns or templates were tested before.

Instead, shal.ul is annoyed by something else: customers who perceive AI as magic and believe they can do without developers. «Well, go ahead and do it,» he says ironically.

The quality of AI code is a separate story. askoldex complains about colleagues who «generate crap code and immediately throw it into MR», forcing others to waste time on reviews. And user stormragr, a principal .NET developer at a British company, tells how he tested Claude for generating autotests — and got such a strange result that the model even used the reflection API to «draw» successful tests.

Despite the hype, some IT professionals emphasize that AI does not replace engineers, but only changes their work. According to Dmytro Naholyuk (dmytronaholiuk), development has become faster, but at the same time the workload has increased — after all, all generated code needs to be validated. «If you don’t care about quality, it’s even harder mentally,» he notes.

Some comments are even more harsh. A user with the nickname siromanto talks about «degradation of basic knowledge» and gives the example of a highly rated AI/DS engineer who writes good prompts but doesn’t understand git-flow or basic engineering principles.

However, technology is not the only cause of irritation. A large part of the discussion is about the state of the market.

Users directly write: «the lack of work is annoying» (denys.osadchy) or «looking for a job» (oleksand4r.ux). Others, like san40511, talk about constant uncertainty and the fear of being fired «one day.»

Against this background, the topic of burnout is increasingly heard. distinctodbc describes IT as exhausting «brain work,» after which you want to go to more «down-to-earth» professions — for example, baking bread or working with your hands to see a real result. «Previously, at least there were business trips and an understanding of who you were doing it for. Now there is none,» he adds.

Other triggers include micromanagement (mentioned by sss_starosta), too many managers (m47ur), time trackers, and incompetent colleagues (taraszion). And user d.pidhrushnyi succinctly summarizes another reason for irritation: «IT bloggers are starting to f*ck up.»

There are also more ironic answers. For example, maxi__maaax simply wrote: «Work.» And funivan.dev joked that even in Threads you can’t escape IT: «You’re scrolling through the feed to get distracted — and you see a post about IT.»

Despite the varying tone — from humor to outright irritation — the thread shows the main thing: the Ukrainian IT industry is entering a more difficult stage. After years of growth, specialists are faced with a new reality, where they need to not only write code, but also constantly prove their worth.
