Software Engineer Yuriy Andriyko recently received what he called a "funny" contract for proofreading. To save himself time, he uploaded the document to ChatGPT for analysis and shared the results on LinkedIn.
The chatbot drew attention to certain points in the contract and explained what risks they entailed.
Clause 2.5 of the contract stated: "Services will be provided on a full-time basis. Services will be provided 5 days a week, 9 hours a day."
ChatGPT's comment: "This directly contradicts the stated part-time format. Such a schedule = full-time, without the ability to keep up with your own projects."
ChatGPT's comment: "If you are working on your own ideas at the same time, it can be interpreted as being created 'in collaboration', especially if technologically similar."
Clauses 2.7, 6.2 stated that all taxes and obligations are on the contractor's side.
ChatGPT comment: "No company participation in paying social contributions, insurance, etc. This is potentially problematic when working with a foreign company without protection at the level of Ukrainian legislation."
AI drew attention to Exhibit C, 4.1–4.2: Non-solicit for 3 years
and Non-compete for 12 months, including the phrase "engage in any activity that competes in any way with the business."
ChatGPT's comment: "This may prohibit you from: selling your own products, working on other projects, even freelancing. Inviting friends to your projects if they worked here. If you use even fragments from your open-source or third-party libraries, and the contract treats everything as created "for the company", this is potentially dangerous."
All disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Tel Aviv, as stated in clause 8.5, Exhibit C, clause 6.
ChatGPT's comment: "It is extremely difficult, expensive and almost impossible to sue from Ukraine."
As Back End Engineer Dmitry Martynov noted: “It’s interesting at what point the owner of the company comes up with the idea of introducing serfdom.”
To which Frontend Developer Dmytro Voytovych replied: "Probably at the moment when he feels that he will not bear responsibility."
