This is OpenAI’s first partnership with a defense contractor — and a significant shift from its previous position on military applications of AI, The Verge reports.
OpenAI’s terms of service previously prohibited military use of its technology, but the company softened its stance on military use earlier this year.

Our partnership with Anduril will help protect OpenAI technology for the U.S. military and help the national security community understand and responsibly use this technology to keep our citizens safe and free», — said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Anduril is currently valued at $14 billion and has a $200 million contract with the US Marine Corps to supply anti-UAV systems. It is reported that OpenAI will not only benefit financially from the partnership with Anduril, but also gain political influence.
Anduril co-founder Palmer Lackey was an early supporter of President-elect Donald Trump and also has ties to Elon Musk, one of the heads of the still-obscure (and still missing) Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE).
