In particular, the FBI clarified that hackers from the TraderTraitor group were responsible for the incident.
“The FBI, along with partners from USSS and IRS-CI, observed TraderTraitor participants converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum. It is expected that these assets will then be laundered through conversion using DeFi and instant exchange services,” the FBI website states .
The FBI also published a list of addresses used by TraderTraitor participants to launder stolen assets and called on all cryptocurrency companies, as well as THORNode and RPC operators, instant exchange exchanges, DeFi services, blockchain analytics companies, and other service providers to block all transactions from these addresses.
As is known, on the night of October 29, unknown attackers withdrew approximately $6.36 billion across ten blockchains from the wallets of the world’s largest crypto exchange Binance, making it the largest cryptocurrency theft in history.
Binance subsequently reserved over $6.34 billion of its own funds to fully cover user losses following the security incident.
