14 EPAM volunteers created a platform for FoodBank Ukraine. Almost 10 million portions of food have already been distributed through it
EPAM Ukraine IT specialists have developed a digital platform Digital FoodBank to automate the work of FoodBank Ukraine, an organization that rescues food and distributes it to people in difficult life circumstances. According to the organization, in 2025 alone, its system managed to save over 4.5 million kg of food and provide almost 10 million portions of food for over 1.4 million Ukrainians.

A year of work by 14 volunteers
14 IT volunteers from EPAM Ukraine worked on the creation of the platform. The development took about a year — from researching the organization’s needs and designing the architecture to testing and launching the system.
Digital FoodBank allows you to automate processes that were previously performed manually: processing requests from charitable organizations, managing warehouse balances, planning needs, coordinating deliveries, and distributing humanitarian cargo.
«The warehouse infrastructure is the operational center of the entire food aid system. How quickly the products reach the people who need them depends on the speed of processing requests and coordinating processes,» FoodBank Ukraine notes.
How the system works
The platform is built on Google Cloud Platform services, which allows minimizing the costs of its support and scaling.
Among the technological features of the solution:
cloud architecture on Google Cloud;
reactive programming for fast request processing;
data encryption;
separate scaling of the server and client parts;
machine learning tools for automatic documentation processing.
The company notes that the project architecture was designed in such a way that the charitable organization could maintain the system with minimal operating costs.
FoodBank Ukraine operates on the food banking model, a system that allows people to transfer products that have lost commercial value but remain safe for consumption.
This includes, in particular, products with a short remaining shelf life, products with changed packaging or batch leftovers after updating the range.
According to the organization’s estimates, this approach saved over 4.5 million kg of food in 2025. This is equivalent to almost 10 million servings of food for over 1.4 million Ukrainians, mostly from frontline areas.
In addition to the social impact, the system helps reduce food waste. When products end up in landfills, they become a source of methane, one of the most powerful greenhouse gases.

FoodBank Ukraine has been operating since 2011 and is the national coordination center for the food bank network. Today, the organization cooperates with over 120 charitable and public organizations in 20 regions of the country.

Максим Лісович, Interior Designer в ЕРАМ Україна, поза роботою допомагає амуніцією українським військовим… собакам. Так, службові пси носять унікальні жилетки та нашийники, мають спеціальні аптечки та турнікети. Чотирилапі в такому «одязі» більш захищені та впізнавані.
За словами Максима, тільки на заході країни нас захищають сотні військових собак. Айтівець допомагає військовим кінологам нести цю службу гідно, забезпечуючи відповідною амуніцією, спеціальними аптечками та турнікетами. Нещодавно він провів три дні поспіль, власноруч відшиваючи нашийники та повідці. А ще два роки тому шити він не вмів узагалі. Ось історія диво-стартапу.

Григорій Клімов — директор з делівері і керівник великої Platform Engineering-практики в EPAM. Понад 10 років він будував свою кар’єру в українському офісі, але війна змусила його з родиною кардинально змінити життя. В березні Григорій з дружиною і трьома дітьми поїхали з рідного Харкова, деякий час провели в ЄС, а згодом — вирушили до Австралії. «Я мріяв жити в цій країні, коли піду на пенсію. Але війна підштовхнула до того, щоб прийняти рішення значно швидше», — каже Григорій.
