In April, Microsoft reported 15 million users. That means 5 million people have tried GitHub Copilot for the first time in the past 3 months, TechCrunch reports . But the company didn’t disclose daily or monthly user counts, so the number is likely much lower.
Microsoft also said that 90% of Fortune 100 companies use the tool. The number of users among enterprise customers also increased by about 75% compared to the previous quarter.
In 2024, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that GitHub Copilot was a bigger business than all of GitHub when Microsoft acquired it in 2018.
Recall that Stack Overflow conducted a survey among 49,009 IT professionals from 160 countries on the use of AI tools for coding. 44% of respondents expressed “some” or “high” distrust of AI. The majority of IT professionals also said that they were disappointed with these tools.
