With the acquisition of Coda and Superhuman, Grammarly, the most valuable company with Ukrainian roots, is expanding its product line and moving towards building a platform where there will be many different artificial intelligence agents that will help increase work productivity. After the acquisition of Coda , the company employs 1,200 people globally in 5 countries. The Ukrainian team consists of 140 specialists. After the acquisition of Superhuman , about 100 more people joined.
"Imagine that for 16 years we have been building an expressway — our infrastructure that allows Grammarly to work in over 500,000 different applications and sites. And now there is only one car on this expressway — our Grammarly communication agent. The company's vision is that in the future there will be many AI-based agents on this expressway," said Volodymyr Lysyuk, Engineering Manager and Ukraine Site Lead at Grammarly, in an interview with DOU.
These will be agents who help marketing teams, sales teams, etc.
“Let’s imagine you’re working on a task and want to write a message. A familiar Grammarly agent will help you formulate the message correctly, according to the context, and set the right tone. At the same time, another agent will have the organizational context and know your correspondence or Jira tickets. And will offer you: “Here are the statistics. Do you want to add data to the message?” And then ask you: “What audience do you work with?” Another agent will tell you: “There are certain studies, let’s target this message to this audience,” Volodymyr Lysyuk shares his vision of how it will work.
According to him, this should all happen seamlessly, that is, without changing the context. AI-based agents should help as much as possible, take away the routine and distract less.
"Our task is to bring AI to where people work and focus on productivity. Anything you can imagine in terms of improving it, removing routines, that can make your life easier as a professional, we will do, because the potential is limitless," says Lysyuk.
To determine what kind of AI agents people need, the company created a team that works on UX, Marketing, and User Research.
“In particular, our researchers don’t just conduct A/B tests, but communicate with individual and business users. They observe how people work, conduct in-depth research, surveys, and write articles. We analyze which agents will be beneficial. We take into account the changing environment and adapt to needs,” explains the Grammarly Engineering Manager.
Lysyuk emphasizes that the user is at the center of everything the company creates. Therefore, it is not about replacing a person, but only about helping with routine tasks.
Recall that in May, Grammarly raised $1 billion in funding from General Catalyst to develop an AI productivity platform.
