Developer Vladislav Voytovych created GroshMeister, a personal finance tracking application that automatically pulls up transactions from Monobank, categorizes expenses, and shows where the money goes.
Vladyslav told dev.ua about the development.
GroshMeister “pulls up” transactions from Monobank and tries to understand where the money went. Supermarket purchases go to Products, Bolt to Transport, Spotify to Subscriptions, etc. If the automated system gets something wrong, it can be “trained” — for example, by creating a rule. For example, if the description includes Rozetka, it means it’s in “Electronics,” after which GroshMeister will automatically assign subsequent similar purchases there.
Expenses and income
The application also has a split-transaction function. For example, if a check from Silpo for UAH 1,000 consists of UAH 800 worth of products and UAH 200 worth of household chemicals, it can be “split” between the two categories. GroshMeister processes returns separately. For example, if a user ordered delivery and then canceled and received a refund, the return will not appear in the statistics as new income. Instead, the application will deduct it from food expenses.
Also in the application you can view statistics by month, trends for 6–12 months, or compare two periods.
Analytics
You can also set monthly limits for categories. So if you have a certain amount planned for a category, GroshMeister will show you how much has already been spent and how much is left.
Limits
GroshMeister also shows net worth — the user’s overall financial balance. It can include Monobank cards, cash, currency, crypto wallets, and other accounts. If money is stored in dollars, euros, or zlotys, the amount is converted to the hryvnia equivalent. However, for now, automatic synchronization only works with Monobank, so accounts in other banks, cash, or crypto wallets can only be added manually. Voytovych explains this by the lack of an accessible way to automatically import transactions from other Ukrainian banks.
Net worth and debts
The application also takes into account debts. If someone owes the user 1200 UAH, this amount is added to his total balance. If he himself owes someone, it is subtracted. In addition, you can keep a separate history for each person. For example, write down that you paid 2000 UAH for a joint gift, and later received 800 UAH back. Then GroshMeister will show that you still have to pay back 1200 UAH.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about another Ukrainian personal finance tracker, Expensa. It also automates expense tracking, but receives purchase data via Apple Wallet.
