About changes
UAVs changed the distance of stationary direction finders from the front line. What is ours, what is the enemy’s. The RER went 15+ km from the front line. Otherwise, they will find it and destroy it. The direction finders went, and with them the accuracy of target detection, and their detection itself, went.
The second thing that has changed for both us and the enemy is the decision-making process for fire engagement. It’s just that PER data is no longer enough, everyone requires visual confirmation of targets.
And the third thing that has changed. Our enemy has massively switched to Chinese DMR. And unlike our adventures with AES 256 licenses for Moto and Haytera, they get AES for free for their Chinese radio stations. We had a transition period of 40-bit keys, and they didn’t feel it, switching from analog directly to AES256.
The enemy is also abandoning standard radio stations in the 30-108MHz range on armor, and, like us, is installing automotive DMR stations on tanks and armored vehicles.
What to do?
Learn to analyze the activity of enemy radio stations and repeaters in the DMR standard. Even if we can’t hear their conversations, analytics provides a lot of benefits.
Don’t look for new unique ground-based direction finders. They are all technically the same. Try solutions on UAVs, balloons. High altitude gives more opportunities.
If you see that the result of your work is getting less and less, change the profile of your work. For example, direction finding and detection of drone remote controls (Mavics and FPV). Search for means that suppress FPV video channels. Search for counter-battery radars and air defense.
