«We communicated in the Chatham House format — frankly and without unnecessary formality. There were many questions — about war, politics, the future. A normal discussion ensued. Such meetings are truly useful,» Andriy Yermak wrote in his Telegram channel. He also thanked the Kyiv School of Economics, where the meeting was held.
As Economic Truth reports, the students were not shy about asking the head of the President’s Office sharp and uncomfortable questions. One of them concerned Andriy Yermak’s opinion on banning the Telegram messenger in Ukraine.
«We have a society, we are for freedom. And, for example, 80% of the military are categorically against banning Telegram. The military, who give us the opportunity to sit here, their voice must be taken into account, and we must not create a split in society today,» Yermak replied.
He added that he is sure that Telegram founder «Mr. Durov» and his messenger «cannot help but relate to Russia», but Yermak «respects the opinion of the people of Ukraine.»
Recall that in June, reports appeared that Telegram may be linked to the Russian FSB. However, the management of the messenger’s developer company denies this information.
Meanwhile, many Ukrainian companies use Telegram for internal communication. According to a survey conducted by dev.ua, 71,4% of respondents use Telegram to resolve work issues. And only 14,3% prohibit the use of Durov’s messenger at the level of corporate rules.
