Intel has already made a series of layoffs that have affected about 20,000 employees this year alone. Now it plans to lay off another 5,000 employees.
Most of the employees affected by the latest layoffs will be from California (2,000) and Oregon (2,500), with several hundred also losing their jobs in Arizona, Texas, and Israel, TechRadar writes .
The biggest losses will be in HR, marketing, and administration. The development team will be almost unaffected by the cuts.
Intel says it is working to become a leaner, faster, and more efficient company.
“Many teams have eight or more levels, which creates unnecessary bureaucracy that slows us down,” CEO Lip-Bu Tan wrote in an April memo.
With the new leader at the helm, teams are also being asked to reduce and eliminate any unnecessary meetings, keeping the number of participants to a minimum to allow more time for productive work. Employees are also expected to be in the office at least four days a week , starting in September 2025.
