Intel may team up with TSMC to boost chip production in the US
A potential partnership between Intel and TSMC is being discussed, which, if implemented, could change the global chip manufacturing landscape and solve existing problems associated with the concentration of advanced chip manufacturing in Asia.
A potential partnership between Intel and TSMC is being discussed, which, if implemented, could change the global chip manufacturing landscape and solve existing problems associated with the concentration of advanced chip manufacturing in Asia.
According to Baird, a possible deal is currently being discussed in which TSMC would send engineers to one of Intel's most advanced chip manufacturing plants. The goal of such a collaboration would be to apply TSMC's expertise and ensure the viability of Intel's manufacturing processes, TechSpot writes .
The proposed partnership could take an even more substantial form, with the possibility of spinning off the plant into a new venture jointly owned by Intel and TSMC. This new venture would be managed by TSMC and could potentially receive funding under the US CHIPS law.
"There are discussions from the Asia supply chain that the US government will get involved in potentially the following: TSMC would send engineers to Intel's 3nm/2nm fab, applying the company's know-how to ensure that the fab and subsequent...
However, it is important to note that these negotiations are still in their early stages. The analytical report emphasizes that there is no confirmation of a deal yet, and if it does happen, the process could be lengthy.
However, it is easy to imagine how a potential partnership between Intel and TSMC could significantly change the global chip market. Combining Intel's infrastructure with TSMC's expertise would strengthen Intel's position in advanced chip manufacturing, closing the technology gap with TSMC. This would provide large technology companies with a viable alternative for advanced semiconductor manufacturing, expanding the supply chain.
The potential Intel-TSMC partnership comes amid the U.S. government's growing focus on domestic chip manufacturing, with President Trump repeatedly stating his desire to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the United States.
To encourage chip manufacturing to move to the U.S., the Trump administration has proposed a 100% tariff on foreign-made processors. The move has raised concerns about potential price increases for consumers, though Trump says any short-term disruptions will be outweighed by the long-term benefits to the U.S. economy.
In response to these developments, TSMC has already taken steps to increase its presence in the U.S. The company has approved an additional $17 billion in financing to increase chip production, with some of this investment going to its operations in the United States.
“Usually, states subsidize such projects by about 30%.” dev.ua received more information about domestic chip production, and also learned the opinion of the tech business about this initiative
