Nadella hinted at the intention to bring the next console closer to the Windows ecosystem and Microsoft’s business as a whole, 80 Level reports .
«Remember, the biggest gaming business is the Windows business. For us, Windows games and of course Steam have created a huge market and have been very successful. So for us, gaming is, first and foremost, the fact that we are now the largest publisher [after acquiring Activision],» Nadella said.
According to him, Xbox will be «everywhere, on every platform» — consoles, PC, smartphones, cloud gaming, and TVs. Insiders claim that the next-gen Xbox will be a hybrid system that will allow players to play PC games from different stores.
«We want to do innovative work on the system side of console and PC. And it’s a little funny that people think of console and PC as two different things. We created the console because we wanted to create a better PC that could work for gaming. So I want to review some of those conventional wisdoms,» said the head of Microsoft.
In this new direction, PlayStation and Switch are no longer Xbox’s biggest competitors. Nadella agreed with Xbox Games head Matt Booty that TikTok and movies are the biggest concerns for the business.
«The competition for games is short-form videos. And so if we as an industry don’t continue to innovate, both in how we produce, what we produce, and how we think about distribution, the economic model, then the best way to innovate is to have good margins, because that’s how you can fund it,» Nadella said.
Earlier it was reported that for the 2025 fiscal year, the total compensation of Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella increased by 22% compared to the previous year. The company assured shareholders that he is worth such compensation.
