Zelenskyy’s personal phone does not have Telegram, New York Times journalists assure. It’s strange, why would that be? After all, he has a personal Telegram channel, through which the greatest wisdom of the Leader of the Free World reaches up to 700,000 subscribers. But there is no Telegram on his own smartphone? How is that? And what about «We are all presidents»?
The New York Times says that «before Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, intelligence warned Zelensky about the risk of Russian influence on Telegram.» And since then, the Russian product has not been on his smartphone.
That is, for himself, he solved the problem of threat localization by deleting Telegram from his personal smartphone. But he did not even intend to solve it for the citizens who entrusted him with the highest power in the country. On whose behalf he uses this power and to protect whose interests this power was given to him. Moreover, by deleting Telegram from his personal smartphone, he continued to develop his channel, thereby encouraging more and more citizens of Ukraine to install this completely Russian application. And he forced all state structures to create «official TG channels». And he himself does not use it, let me remind you.

I have been talking about the dangers of Russian Telegram for six or seven years. As have several other specialists. And in the GUR of the Ministry of Defense there are also conscious experts who explained everything to the Supreme Council on their fingers. In the third year of a full-scale war, even the court NSDC cautiously recommended «restricting the use of Telegram in state authorities, military formations, and critical infrastructure facilities.»
Meanwhile, the «cart» is installed on approximately 73% of Ukrainians: Official tg channels are available in most of the highest authorities of Ukraine. In April 2024, Durov demonstratively blocked a dozen of them, demonstrating his ability to influence the Ukrainian authorities.
And so, when the country begins preparations for the elections, this Russian tool will definitely be used to influence the choice of Ukrainians, don’t go to a fortune teller. As was recently the case in Romania with the Chinese Tik-Tok, which actively promoted a pro-Russian candidate.
By the way, do you have Telegram on your smartphone? If so, delete it immediately. And don’t believe that there is no alternative.
For example, the WhatsApp channel of the Ukrainian Air Force provides excellent information about alarms: For secure communication with colleagues, friends, and relatives, encrypted Signal, Threema, Wire, and Session are much better suited. And even Viber is an order of magnitude safer than Telegram. By the way, Viber was recently banned in Russia.
I don’t have Telegram on my smartphone and never have — and this fact in no way limits my awareness. Just as I don’t have Diia, Rezerv+, Tik-Tok, Temu, Aliexpress, and other sources of cyber threats.
It’s not that I’m calling for following my path as an info-samurai — it’s not easy, it requires knowledge, principles, perseverance, and willpower. I’m calling for at least «being like Zelensky.»
