SoftServe Co-Founder: "In a few years, coding and testing will be replaced by machines. Those who write specifications and check the code will remain"

Taras Kytsmey, co-founder of the largest Ukrainian service company SoftServe, believes that IT will be the first industry where changes from artificial intelligence will be the most drastic and noticeable. According to his forecast, the coding and testing process will be replaced by machines in a few years.
«At the input, a person will write task statements, specifications, perhaps in more detail than they are currently writing. And at the output, we will have a result,» he said in an interview with Yulia Borisko in the «Yellow Sneakers» project.
The IT expert predicts that so-called security trust engineers will appear — people who will check the code written by the machine and confirm its correctness. Not everyone will be able to do this on their own, so the role of such a specialist as a guarantor will grow.
At the same time, Kitsmey does not believe that this is a disaster. On the contrary, the cost of development will decrease, the speed will increase, and the quality will improve, because it will be possible to create several versions of the product at the same time.
«Now it’s difficult to force people to redo it. You’ve already created it, the system is working, and you say: 'We need to redo it.' And then, when there is a specification — we want it a little differently, we change the specification, launch it — and it redoes a completely new system for you in half a day,» he said.
In addition to IT, Kitsmey identifies two more areas where artificial intelligence will have the greatest effect.
The first is entertainment and media. It is already changing: advertisements, drawings, films are being created quickly. Along with this, the possibilities for deepfakes and manipulations are growing.
The second is biochemistry. According to Kitsmey, humanity currently knows very little about itself, about genetics, about viruses and cells. The amount of data in this area is insane, a person is physically unable to process it. If all this is loaded into a machine, discoveries will appear that are now impossible to even imagine.
«Let artificial intelligence work — and it will be something we didn’t know, couldn’t know,» he predicts.
He also mentions materials science: new materials will emerge because computing power will finally allow us to simulate what was previously impossible.
Certain professions will also «migrate» under the influence of AI. According to the IT expert’s forecast, lawyers, auditors, accountants — all those who do a lot of routine mental work — will be restructured. There will be fewer of them, but they will remain as guarantors of the correctness of decisions made by the machine.
«Not everyone can verify this. A lawyer will say, 'I verified this.' The resources say so, and so it will be,» he noted.
In his opinion, the service business is guaranteed to remain. He gives a personal example: there is a tablet at the New York airport for ordering food, but he always waits for a waiter.
«Human to human. Machines are not competing yet,» says the SoftServe co-founder.
He acknowledges that artificial intelligence is also entering education — a personal AI teacher who knows your weaknesses and selects material may be better than a group lesson. But even there, Kitsmey says, there will always be a human at the top: «In the end, it will end with a human.»
Separately, the SoftServe top manager touched on the topic of controlling artificial intelligence. He spoke about AlphaZero, a system that was given the rules of chess and 8 hours of self-study. During this time, it surpassed all grandmasters and began to play in ways that human thought had not yet reached: for example, it stopped castling, a classic defensive move that was considered mandatory.
«We turn on the button to start it, turn it off, but we don’t fully understand it. We can only look at the results of the work,» Kitsmey explains the phenomenality of AI solutions. «That is, technically we control the on button. But the algorithms by which AI makes decisions are already beyond human understanding.»
