Musk predicts that programming as a profession will die by the end of this year
Around the world, programming has long been considered one of the best options for a future career, but Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, xAI, and a number of other tech companies, known for his eccentric statements, predicts that programming as a profession may die by the end of this year.
Around the world, programming has long been considered one of the best options for a future career, but Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, xAI, and a number of other tech companies, known for his eccentric statements, predicts that programming as a profession may die by the end of this year.
Musk said this during a public event, and his words were quoted by NDTV.
«I think actually, maybe by the end of this year, it will get to the point where you don’t even have to worry about coding. AI just creates the binary directly, and AI can create a much more efficient binary than any compiler,» the tech billionaire noted.
Traditionally for himself, this time he also made a rather bold and ambiguous prediction to the public.
«So just say you need to create an optimized binary for this particular result, and you actually bypass even traditional coding. It’s an intermediate step that won’t actually be needed, probably until the end of this year,» Musk said at the conference.
However, in support of this thesis, the publication cites a report published last month by Revelio Labs and the World Economic Forum, which showed a 35% drop in the number of entry-level jobs, with software development and programming jobs being among those that declined the most.
It is also worth recalling that Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei previously predicted that artificial intelligence could eliminate half of all entry-level positions in the business world and lead to an increase in unemployment to 10-20%.
