Rakuten Viber says this is the result of the Caller ID feature, which marks calls from unknown numbers as potentially safe or dangerous due to spam or fraud. In the spring of 2024, the feature was expanded: users can find out who exactly an unknown number belongs to.
«Both the number of calls from scammers and the number of complaints from users continue to decrease», the company claims.
According to Viber, the number of users who received spam calls has almost halved over the past year: from 155,000 in May 2023–April 2024, to 81,000 in the same period in 2024-2025. The total number of users who reported spam or fraud from May 2024 to April 2025 was about 3.5 thousand. This is 44% less than in the previous period.
Rakuten Viber reported that it blocked 2,200 spammers and scammers in 2024-2025, half the number in the previous period.
As of 2025, more than 3.3 million Viber users have activated the Caller ID feature. Over the past year, this number has increased by 139%. The list of potentially dangerous numbers is formed based on complaints from users, as well as thanks to the work of an internal fraud and spam monitoring system.
