Meta has fired about 20 employees for leaking confidential information. Company spokesman Dave Arnold told The Verge that the firings were the result of an internal investigation aimed at identifying individuals who leaked internal data outside the company.
Arnold stressed that employees are regularly reminded of the company's policy of non-disclosure, regardless of intent. The move was in response to a surge in leaks related to unannounced products and internal discussions, including statements from CEO Mark Zuckerberg. After the leaks were published, employees were warned of the consequences of such actions.
Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth, said the company was making progress in identifying those responsible for the leaks and that the number of perpetrators could be higher. He had previously urged disgruntled employees to resign on their own.
These layoffs come amid internal tensions at Meta related to changes in content moderation policies, the discontinuation of diversity programs, and recent staff cuts targeting " low-performing " employees.
Although the public announcement of the dismissal did not include details about the leaks or the individuals involved, company management made it clear that such actions would have serious consequences.
Recall that as a result of a productivity reassessment for 2024, Meta laid off 5% of employees.
