A Microsoft representative confirmed the cuts but declined to provide details on the number of employees laid off.
"At Microsoft, we focus on high-performing talent," a company spokesperson said. "We're always working to help people learn and grow. When people aren't performing, we take action."
The only thing we know so far is that the cuts will affect all employees, including its important security unit. As of the end of June, Microsoft had approximately 228,000 full-time employees.
