The Ministry of Digital Affairs has increased payments for the "Communication Generator" and introduced a surcharge for frontline communities
The state has revised the terms of participation in the «Communication Generator» project for owners of power plants that power mobile operators' base stations during blackouts. Compensation per hour of generator operation has increased, diesel and gasoline installations have been counted separately, and an increased tariff has been introduced for the 30-kilometer combat zone.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation announced the changes after analyzing hundreds of responses from mobile operators received in the first week of the program. In particular, participants asked to take into account real fuel consumption and difficult working conditions near the front.
Now for diesel generators, the basic compensation is 172 UAH per hour (previously it was 110-140 UAH/hour). If such a station powers a base station in a 30-kilometer combat zone, the owner can count on 197 UAH/hour. For gasoline generators, separate tariffs have been established for the first time: 287 UAH/hour in standard mode and 330 UAH/hour in frontline communities.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs emphasizes that the «Communication Generator» is not a business project. The owners of the equipment do not rent it out, but only refuel and maintain their generators connected to the base stations. In return, the operators compensate for the costs of fuel and service.
Installations with a capacity of 7.2 kW or more, capable of stably powering telecom equipment, can connect to the program. The main goal of the initiative is to maintain mobile communications and the Internet in communities during possible long power outages in winter.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs launched the «Communication Generator» project together with mobile operators as a response to the risk of mass blackouts: the state and business actually share part of the household expenses so that critical communication infrastructure remains operational even when the network is not powered by the power system.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how mobile operators Lifecell, Kyivstar, and Vodafone told what they had already done to ensure communication during a blackout.
«I’m tired of mobile operators simply grumbling in the eyes of deputies and society through state bodies.» People’s Deputy Oleksandr Fedienko appealed to Fedorov regarding the deterioration of the quality of mobile communications
