It is reported that the domain of the video hosting YouTube has disappeared from the DNS servers controlled by Roskomnadzor. Because of this, users' devices cannot determine the IP address of the service and display an error message when trying to go to the service’s website. Thus, YouTube is only accessible via VPN or other methods of bypassing the blocking.
In 2024, the Russian authorities announced to communication providers a decision to slow down the speed of downloading videos on Youtube to 128 kilobytes per second.
Subsequently, Russian internet monitoring sites reported massive outages in the YouTube video hosting service, and Russian providers began warning users about blocking Google services.
Over time, Internet providers in Russia began to complain that they were losing subscribers en masse due to YouTube slowdowns.
