He said that the decision to find a partner in January 2026 was due to burnout, increased workload, and changes in the online environment. According to him, after the departure of Marlamin’s co-founder a few years ago, the entire administration fell on his shoulders, and supporting the project began to require as much time as a full-time job.
«After the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of artificial intelligence, the internet we once loved disappeared, and with it my passion. It’s hard to keep up with everything on my own, and the mental strain is only increasing. I couldn’t live with the thought of letting the site decline or closing it down,» xPaw noted.
He emphasized that he chose Nexus Mods because of their shared vision and commitment to the community. The SteamDB founder will remain with the project for the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
Nexus Mods CEO Victor Vollmann noted that the company is committed to providing SteamDB with the necessary resources, team, and long-term stability while maintaining the service’s uniqueness.
For Nexus Mods, this agreement will open up access to SteamDB’s historical data on game manifests and updates. This will allow the mod manager to automatically detect the game version, check mods for compatibility with new patches, and avoid crashes.
For SteamDB users, the site will remain separate, free, and will not require a Nexus Mods account. The main changes will be in the infrastructure: the project will receive a funded development team, improved security, and a budget for purchasing Steam keys, which previously depended mostly on community donations.
SteamDB has been around for 13 years and is the leading independent source of analytics on online players, price changes, and update history for the Steam catalog. Nexus Mods is one of the largest mod catalogs in the world for PC games.
