A new fraudulent scheme has been detected on the Rakuten Viber service, in which attackers pose as buyers from OLX and send phishing links supposedly to confirm payment.
As noted in the press release, this scam has become popular in recent months. The scheme involves scammers contacting sellers via messengers, including Rakuten Viber, claiming to be buyers from OLX who have already paid for the goods. They then send fake links asking them to follow them to receive money.
By clicking on such a link, sellers are taken to fake sites that look like official platforms, where they are asked to enter bank card details, passwords, or other private information. Once this data is obtained, scammers can steal money or carry out unauthorized transactions on the user’s behalf.
