The updated version of Bethesda’s cult RPG was released on April 22 and immediately topped the trends: in just the first week of sales, Oblivion Remastered became the third best-seller of the year in the US, behind only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. This was reported by IGN with reference to Circana analyst Matt Piscatella.
Interestingly, the ranking only takes into account commercial sales, so the numbers do not include players with Game Pass subscriptions. Despite this, Oblivion Remastered already has over 4 million players, and its peak concurrent audience on Steam reached 216,784 users. The game is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The remaster was created by Virtuos Studio on Unreal Engine 5 and contains a number of deep updates: a new leveling system, improved combat animations, a redesigned interface, new dialogues and a realistic facial expression and voice system. The game runs at 4K/60 FPS and, according to the designers, is significantly superior to the latest graphical updates to Skyrim.
Fans have already dubbed the project «Oblivion 2.0,» and the remaster’s success has fueled rumors of future updates to Bethesda classics, including Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. One of the developers of Fallout 3, Bruce Nesmith, said that in the case of the remaster, we should expect a significantly redesigned combat system based on Fallout 4.
Let us recall that we once published an article about how a developer left Bethesda in the midst of working on Starfield to create his own indie studio.
