Musk previously criticized Christopher Nolan's film version of "The Odyssey" for casting non-white and transgender actors. Against the backdrop of Musk, who actively promotes space data centers and an endless stream of AI content, Nolan positions himself as a "technoskeptic" and claims that before the advent of AI, he had never seen a technology that society so resolutely rejected.
Nolan's film, released in July, has been a huge box office success, selling out IMAX theaters for months and becoming a likely frontrunner for the next Oscars. It's a massive project with practical effects, filming in six countries, and thousands of extras.
Grok's artificially created Odyssey (developed in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dave Walker) offers something different.

While it doesn't look as terrifying as some might expect, and is more impressive than Musk's other recent videos, the project leaves a mixed impression. At times, it feels as if the screen is showing real actors on the high seas.
It's hard to say whether it's historically accurate (the characters don't speak Ancient Greek), but all the characters have a "Musk-approved" skin tone. The narrator speaks with a British accent familiar to any fan of fantasy video games or Hollywood epics of the last 25 years.
Reviewers note that the work completely lacks artistry, inspiration or lively interest. The endless voice-over narration fades into a series of bearded faces shouting unnatural lines. The footage feels “airless” and devoid of dynamics - if Nolan’s original three-hour film keeps you in suspense from start to finish, Grok’s seven minutes make you want to press the “skip” button.
At this point, it's hard to imagine who would be interested in watching another seven minutes of such content, let alone a full-length film.
