The platform is designed to be an on-premises and fully private alternative to popular cloud-based solutions like ChatGPT and Claude.
The blogger announced the launch of the project in his new YouTube video titled “ MY trillion $Dollar Project is finally OUT! ” The Odysseus code has already been made publicly available on GitHub for the community of developers and AI enthusiasts.
The main idea of the project is to transfer all the work of artificial intelligence directly to the user’s computer. Unlike commercial services that collect data to train models or require a monthly subscription fee, Odysseus works locally and does not send information to third-party servers, which guarantees complete data privacy.
The platform contains an AI agent capable of performing practical tasks directly in the user’s operating system: from analyzing and transcribing local files to automating work with mailboxes, calendars, and task schedulers. Thanks to the built-in Cookbook tool, the system independently analyzes the characteristics of the computer and helps select the optimal LLM models (for example, in GGUF, FP8, or AWQ formats) for the user’s specific hardware.
In addition, the Odysseus ecosystem integrates a text editor with Markdown support, a tool for deep information search on the web (Deep Research), and a module for comparing the responses of different models «blindly» to objectively select the best result.
«The war with big tech has just begun. We will no longer be the target of abuse,» Chelberg said in his video, explaining the philosophy behind the release. According to him, today’s users are forced to give private data to tech giants in exchange for basic AI features, and Odysseus is designed to give people back control over their digital lives.
Previously, tech YouTuber and networking expert Chris Sherwood developed Project NOMAD, a 250GB «digital ark» with a knowledge base, local AI, and offline maps that can be downloaded to your computer for free.
