Recruiters fix the trend for office work in vacancies in Ukraine. What is it: the illusion of control or the demand for time? The IT-people discuss
Yana Miroshnyk, Head of HR/HRBP, raised the sensitive topic of returning to offices on LinkedIn. «I see the tendency to return to offices in vacancies, it is rapidly gaining momentum. The position of HR units is remote,» she said.
Yana Miroshnyk, Head of HR/HRBP, raised the sensitive topic of returning to offices on LinkedIn. «I see the tendency to return to offices in vacancies, it is rapidly gaining momentum. The position of HR units is remote,» she said.
Currently, the specialist believes, such a requirement will have a rather negative impact on productivity.
«I left for the city early in the morning — public transport is at a standstill, people are waiting for hours at bus stops and in the subway for the opportunity to get to work and home in the evening. I’m sure that after such a morning trip, I don’t have half the strength to solve problems,» she said .
Yana asked the heads of the companies and ordinary citizens of Aitiv what the sudden desire to return everyone to the office is connected with, apart from the illusion of control.
Dozens of people reacted to her post — the topic collected more than 130 comments. Here are the most interesting ones.
Artem Pelevin, Android Developer, answered Yana’s question as follows: «With the global trend of returning workers to offices. Returning workers to Google and Microsoft offices in California and Barcelona is one thing, and returning workers to Kyiv offices or Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia is another. When companies say that they have a storage facility, do they really move people to them during their working hours? So many questions…»
Registrar Victoria Mirkevich notes the following: «The shortage of personnel should still sell some working conditions, including work in the office. My subjective opinion. But, I don’t mind going to the office if: there are no fines for being late due to anxiety, there is an opportunity to work remotely for several days, there is a storage room near the office, there are no various activities after 18:00, as some companies like to hold work meetings after the end of the working day, etc.» .
Anna K., Data analyst, considers such a requirement inconsistent with the realities of the time. «To the office for a 9-hour working day, two hours to work and to do things. If the alarm is in the morning, you need to bring the child to school or kindergarten after the alarm goes off an hour later, and another hour to get to work. And if fines for lateness. In today’s conditions, working in an office as a requirement does not correspond to the realities of our time,» she wrote.
«I would not return to the office for any money in the world. When I worked in the office, 40% of the time was spent communicating with colleagues, well, I am so communicative. And working from home, my productivity increased so much that I myself did not expect. But this requires a lot of motivation (SMART-tasks, which make up almost half of my salary, help to maintain this motivation), involvement (after all, I really love my work and get high from the results), self-discipline (I developed it in myself and feel, which is the cornerstone of my effectiveness). And about working in the office — some of my colleagues from past companies in the workplace did so much nonsense outside of work tasks that it is a very big illusion of control. For example, one was constantly sitting on the site „Naked Girls“. At home, at least he was afraid of a woman,» notes Ivanna Kolesnikova, T&D.
Recruiter Tetyana Kozachenko believes that forcing them to work in the office will only distract employees and some will look for new opportunities. «Fortunately, there are still many employers who offer at least a hybrid format,» she said.
And Game Developer Serhiy Chechuy says that the illusion of control is the whole point. «Moreover, some people in all seriousness sometimes make posts or talk about how bad programmers are, and how they allow themselves to wash dishes, clean and all that remotely during working hours!!! And in the office, everything is under control and under supervision!», the developer said.
«In Ukraine, I was an HR director, and here I started working as a waitress.» A Ukrainian recruiter who moved to the USA sent out 1,200 resumes, but could not find a job
