Ukrainians may have the legal right not to answer work calls, messages, and letters after the end of the working day. The so-called "right to informational peace" has been included in the draft of the new Civil Code.
This is reported by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper, citing the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Stefanchuk.
"This is a very important thing that distinguishes civilized legal systems from others," Stefanchuk noted.
The draft code itself states that a person who works, provides services, or fulfills other contractual obligations will be able to interrupt work communication in their free time and not respond to calls, messages, or emails. And there should be no legal liability or other negative consequences for this.
However, there are exceptions. The right to informational peace may be limited, in particular, due to a threat to national security, an emergency or extraordinary situation, or a risk to people's life and health. Certain conditions may also be prescribed in contracts.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft of the new Civil Code No. 15150 as a basis on April 28, 2026. The document is currently being prepared for the second reading, so the final wording of the norm may still change.

“What about the abolition of serfdom?” A QA specialist asked if notifications outside working hours are a lack of humanity. What do other IT professionals think about this?
“We go the extra mile at this company.” A Danish IT professional recounted a conflict with a US manager who was unhappy that he was leaving work on time.
