Revolut's Head of New Markets Launch on Russian Co-Founder: "We Are a Pro-Ukrainian Company, Not a Pro-Russian One"
Dmytro Strelchuk, Head of New Markets Launch at Revolut, commented on the British press’s claims that the long process of issuing a banking license in the UK was related to the Russian origin of the company’s co-founder, Nikolai Storonsky.
Dmytro Strelchuk, Head of New Markets Launch at Revolut, commented on the British press’s claims that the long process of issuing a banking license in the UK was related to the Russian origin of the company’s co-founder, Nikolai Storonsky.
Strelchuk said this in an interview with AIN, answering the question of whether Revolut’s Russian origin would prevent Storonsky from obtaining a banking license in Ukraine.
According to the head of new markets launch, Revolut has no problems obtaining a banking license in Ukraine, as well as problems with the fact that one of the co-founders is of Russian origin. He added that Nikolai Storonsky has not lived in Russia for 20 years and publicly renounced Russian citizenship when the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
«At the company level, we are a pro-Ukrainian company, not a pro-Russian one. This is expressed in our actions. We have never worked in Russia and do not plan to. When the full-scale invasion began, we were one of the first to close all transfers to the Russian Federation. What the media wrote about obtaining a license in Britain is speculation. They do not have access to our interaction with regulators. We have no problems with regulators,» said Dmitry Strelchuk.
He clarified that the long process of obtaining a banking license in the UK was due to the large size of the company.
Revolut previously stated that Ukrainians formed the largest waiting list the company had on a «global scale,» but did not specify how many Ukrainians had already gained access to the application.
On February 11, the neobank app Revolut exited beta testing in Ukraine and became available to all users. Verification is done through «Diya», a video recording, and a passport photo.
