"How to pass a midwife interview if you're a junior?" Ukrainian Reddit discusses an offer of 150,000 UAH and whether it's realistic to "grow up on the go"

A Ukrainian IT guy wrote on Reddit that he received an offer for 150,000 UAH from a foreign company, although he considers himself a Junior. After an initial call with an AI agent and a conversation with HR, he reached the final stage — and now he asks the community: how to quickly «roll» into the role of a middleman and not fail.

«I’m unemployed and really dependent on the offer right now, so please no negativity, we all want to eat,» the author wrote .

The post quickly garnered dozens of comments — and the discussion went far beyond the specific case.

«They asked less for the senor than for the junior»

Some users noted that technical interviews for senior positions are often easier than junior ones.

One of the commentators wrote that he was asked fewer questions in an interview for a senior role than he used to be asked in a junior position, because the focus was not on theoretical questions like «what will the console display», but on the experience of making decisions and taking responsibility.

Others confirmed: many companies do not test rote knowledge, but the ability to solve problems independently.

«Middle is not about the stack»

One of the most popular answers boiled down the discussion to a simple thesis: the difference between junior and middle is not about who knows syntax better.

«When I’m looking for a senior or middle manager for the team, I’m looking for someone who can quickly solve problems without hysteria, take responsibility, and work for results.»

According to commentators, a die-hard Jun can know the theory even better than an experienced specialist. But the middle level is tested where you have to work in conditions of uncertainty.

Grades have long ceased to guarantee anything

Several participants in the discussion directly wrote: the titles junior/middle/senior are increasingly denoting the actual level.

One of the subreddit moderators admitted that he had removed grades from his resume altogether and only looked at the job description.

«A signor in one company may be a jun in another.»

This opinion was supported by other users: companies assess the level of autonomy, architectural thinking, and breadth of responsibility differently.

Some advise «fake it till you make it»

Some commentators believe that if a candidate is able to quickly catch up, there is nothing wrong with taking on a role above their current level.

Their argument is simple: the company conducts its own technical assessment and makes its own decisions.

If a candidate passes the selection honestly, without fabricated experience, and is then ready to grow quickly in the process, it can work.

However, others warn: the probationary period will quickly show the real level.

«The main thing is not to pretend to be someone you are not. But also not to underestimate yourself because of someone else’s title?» noted one of the participants in the discussion.

AI is already changing the hiring process itself

Some users were particularly struck by the detail about the initial conversation with the AI agent, which preceded communication with HR.

For many, this was another confirmation: recruiting automation is no longer futuristic.

And as employers increasingly use AI to select candidates, a candidate’s ability to adapt to such processes becomes a new core skill.
