“If there are six seniors in the team and there are no tasks suitable for training, there is no point in hiring a junior”. The CTO of Ukrainian OBRIO told what percentage of beginners are in the company

Anton Vodolazky, who works as CTO (chief technical officer) at OBRIO, part of the Genesis ecosystem of IT product companies, reported a significant expansion of the staff. He says that the IT labor market is currently very competitive.
Vodolazky told DOU that in 2025, OBRIO grew by more than 140 employees, of which about 50 are technical specialists. Currently, a team of 300 specialists works in Ukraine. According to him, it is currently difficult to find specialists who are «perfectly suited both in terms of soft skills and values.»
«The biggest difficulties are with finding iOS Lead, iOS Developer, and QA engineers. It is worth mentioning native automators who write for iOS or Android separately — this is a rare but very necessary specialization,» noted the CTO at OBRIO.
He added that after switching from manual QA to general, the company made the hiring process more difficult for itself, because testers must have manual experience and a certain stack in automation, and there are much fewer general and automation QA in the market than manual.
Anton Vodolazky reported that about 20% of OBRIO employees are juniors, 30-40% are mid-level, and the remaining specialists are at the «senior» level.
«Before inviting a junior, the team should have someone with management and mentoring experience who is ready to work with them. If the lead or manager has just moved into a leadership role, then hiring a junior to such a team is inappropriate. If the team has six seniors and there are no tasks suitable for training, there is no point in hiring a junior,» he said.
According to Vodolazky, OBRIO also has teams without technical debt or complex tasks. It is into this «safe environment» that Juns are integrated, where they can «learn and at the same time benefit the team.»
