Report" for 2025.
“The rapid increase in Telegram fraud cases demonstrates how quickly criminal tactics are adapting,” said Woody Maloof, head of financial crime at Revolut.
According to Revolut, Meta’s platforms still account for almost half of all reported fraud cases. Meanwhile, TikTok saw a six-fold increase in the number of users reporting scams on the app. Overall, Telegram accounts for 21% of all fraud cases recorded by the fintech company.
Among the most common types of fraud, Revolut named the following:
Platforms owned by Meta Corporation continue to be the main source of all APP fraud cases (voluntary payments under the influence of deception), accounting for 44% of all reported incidents.
In particular, shopping fraud thrives on Meta, accounting for 55% of this type of fraud. Combined, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram also generate over 50% of all credit and real estate fraud. WhatsApp has the worst performance, accounting for over 30% of both credit and housing scams, highlighting the prevalence of fraud through direct messages on messengers.
Together, messaging platforms — WhatsApp and Telegram — are the source of 60% of investment scams, as well as a staggering 79% of all employment fraud cases.
“Here we observe another alarming trend: Telegram alone now accounts for over 58% of all job scams, up from 50% in 2024. It is clear that the messenger must urgently step up measures and implement control mechanisms to combat these types of crimes,” the report notes.
