Chipmakers NVIDIA and AMD are asking partners to speed up deliveries of next-generation graphics processors to the US market in order to meet rising tariffs that could raise prices for graphics cards by 40%.

NVIDIA and AMD have taken urgent steps to prevent the impact of Trump’s tough tariff policies on their supply chains, Wccftech reports. They are trying to ship their graphics cards to major US markets by January 20th to avoid tariffs that could significantly raise prices.

The partner company AIB is massively increasing production of next-generation graphics processors, which is an unusual trend, as the supply of next-gen graphics cards at launch is usually limited.

NVIDIA and AMD are rumored to have begun production of new GPUs in early December to ensure they arrive in the US before Donald Trump’s inauguration, which is scheduled to take place on January 20. That way, when tariffs rise and begin to affect prices for consumers, manufacturers will make more profit from the initial stock of GPUs.

The changes Trump is planning to implement include a 10% tariff on imports from other countries, as well as a 60% tariff on imports from China, and given that most consumer gaming GPUs come from China, prices are expected to soar as much as 40%. Microsoft, Dell, and HP have also taken similar steps, speeding up production to combat Trump’s policies.

The recommended price of NVIDIA and AMD’s next-generation GPUs is not yet known, but experts predict that it could be $1,799 for the flagship GeForce RTX 5090. With the 40% tariff, NVIDIA’s flagship GPU could cost around $2,500. The tariff will shake up GPU pricing and also contribute to increased demand for older GPUs.

Recall that gamers have previously noticed that the Nvidia App reduces PC performance in some games. Experts tested a number of games with and without the Nvidia App, and found that it can indeed reduce the number of frames per second in some cases.

The company later acknowledged the issue and released an update that disables the «Game Filters and Photo Mode» feature by default, which was affecting performance.
