"Scammers masquerade as well-known companies and write to candidates on their behalf," warns a recruiter and provides advice on how to avoid becoming victims of fake "employers"
A recruiter at Ukrainian outsourcing IT company WebbyLab warns about scammers who pretend to be famous companies and write to candidates on their behalf.
A recruiter at Ukrainian outsourcing IT company WebbyLab warns about scammers who impersonate well-known companies and write to candidates on their behalf.
Senior Recruiter Natalia Shelepko has been in recruiting for over 6 years, but for the first time she encountered such a situation: candidates began sending her screenshots of correspondence where unknown people impersonated the WebbyLab company.
“Scammers disguise themselves as well-known companies and write to candidates on their behalf. They pose as our recruiters, schedule “interviews,” invite them to “offices,” and assure them that these branches are simply not listed on the company’s website, because only the main office is listed there,” the recruiter wrote on LinkedIn.
She added that in the last two days, three candidates called and told the same story — that the same thing had happened to other companies, not just WebbyLab.
The recruiter emphasized that only she and her colleague Maksym Z can write on behalf of the company. She also noted that if a vacancy is not on the official website, it means it is fake.
Here are some tips from a recruiter on how to check the veracity of information:
Go to the company's website - if there is no such vacancy, it most likely does not exist in the company.
Check recruiters on LinkedIn to see if this person actually works at the company.
Check the official website. “Normal companies list all their offices and current vacancies,” the recruiter explains.
“If they call you ‘to a branch that isn’t on the website’ — run away,” Natalia also advises.
If something seems strange, write directly to the company.
Natalia Shelepko also asks to share her post so that job seekers do not become victims of fake "employers."
