This is according to the results of a survey of 1,342 managers conducted by ResumeBuilder, reports Futurism. Of those surveyed, 6 in 10 admitted that they consult a large language model (LLM) when making important HR decisions that affect their employees.
According to the study, 78% of respondents said they consulted a chatbot when deciding whether to give an employee a raise, and 77% said they used it to determine a promotion.
As many as 66% said that an LLM like ChatGPT helped them make a decision about firing; 64% said they had turned to AI for advice on firings. What’s more, the survey found that nearly one in five managers often let their LLM make the final decision without human input.
More than half of the managers surveyed used ChatGPT, with Microsoft’s Copilot and Google’s Gemini coming in second and third place, respectively.
These numbers paint a grim picture, especially when you consider the problem of LLM flattery—a situation where an AI over-agrees with its interlocutor. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is notorious for its flattery, so much so that the company was forced to address the problem with a special update.
