«AI tags are relevant for art exhibitions to reveal authorship, as well as for digital content licensing markets, where buyers need to understand the rights situation. It doesn’t make sense for game stores, where AI will be involved in almost all future production,» Sweeney wrote on the X platform (Twitter). The Verge reports.
According to him, this is the same as introducing «mandatory disclosure of what shampoo a developer uses».
Back in 2023, the largest digital game store Steam refused developers from hosting projects that used AI-generated content. At the time, Valve, which owns Steam, said it needed «time to master» the changes in the technology. However, in 2024, the company finally «mastered» and introduced new rules for working with artificial intelligence content on Steam. According to them, developers must indicate whether they used AI during development.
Sweeney previously stated that AI «increases human productivity in some areas by several times,» but this should lead to «creating better games, not reducing the number of workers».
